11 HP Gain for Vinci
Hi-Performance Corvette ZR-1 with AMSOIL
Reprinted from Dec 99 AMSOIL Action News
AMSOIL Dealer Tony Schultz recently had one of his Retail On-the-Shelf
accounts receive national attention in an article of Corvette Fever
magazine.
Tony's account, Vinci High Performance has been modifying performance cars
for over 30 years. This unique business started out building race
engines, but has since expanded operations to fine tuning the performance
capabilities of late model vehicles. Vinci High Performance
specializes in late model Corvettes, Camaros, Trans-Ams, Suburbans and
Vipers. In
order to prove the quality of their work, Vinci High Performance runs a
series of dynamometer tests on each vehicle that comes in. After VHP
makes modifications to a vehicle, they perform the dynamometer test again in
order to graph the power increase.
No matter what type of vehicle VHP performs modifications on, or what type
of performance package they install, every performance package receives one
group of basic ingredients:
AMSOIL Series 2000 Motor Oil,
AMSOIL Transmission Fluid and Gear Lube,
AMSOIL Super Duty Oil Filters1
and 2-Stage Air Filters2.
"How did I get this account?" asks
the out-going Tony Schultz. "Roger Vinci was a tough sale. He
was a Valvoline Dealer using their Durablend Motor Oil. Roger has
always recognized the advantages of using synthetic oil in racing but always
believed that synthetic oil leaked or contributed to a loss of oil pressure.
"The only way he
would consider becoming an account was to prove it to himself by installing
AMSOIL in his personal Corvette and running the car on the dynamometer.
If the Series 2000 0w30 either leaked, dropped oil pressure or showed no
horsepower gains, he would drain it out and give it back to me."
Tony knew AMSOIL could live up to
Roger's standards, so he encouraged Roger to install it in his ZR-1
Corvette.
"Roger's Corvette engine was assembled by Mercury Marine with a dual
overhead camshaft - a very exotic design at the time of its release," said
Tony. "It certainly deserves and oil like AMSOIL."
"Much to my satisfaction, Roger
called me after awhile and informed me that his engine always experienced a
lot of piston slap and valve train noise upon start up. But after
switching to AMSOIL Series 2000 0w30 and a Super Duty Oil Filter, he
immediately noticed the piston slap noise was cut in half and the lifter
noise was 100 percent gone. He was also surprised by the lower oil
temperature and an increase in oil pressure."
The only thing left was to put the
Corvette on the dynamometer. The results: A three horsepower gain over
the Valvoline Durablend, plus another eight horsepower by switching the K&N
Air Filter out for an AMSOIL 2-Stage Air Filter. If you include the
AMSOIL Super Duty Oil Filter, that's eleven horsepower with just three
products.
