2003 Chevy Trailblazer EXT

Used Engine Oil Analysis Report

C66 Racing team owner Anita Neff bought a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer EXT with the 5.3L V-8 as her daily driver in the spring of 2003.  After the initial oil change, the oil in the truck as been changed per the GM Oil Life Monitor, averaging about 6,000 miles per oil change.  AMSOIL Extended Life 5w30 Synthetic Motor Oil has been used exclusively in the truck since the factory oil was replaced.  In an attempt to obtain information on the engine's performance after 50,000 miles of overall use, the engine oil was submitted to Blackstone Laboratories for analysis.

Blackstone's comments on the sample result:

Universal averages show typical wear metals for an oil from this type engine after about 5500 miles on the oil. You've run this oil 5817 miles and wear was quite low, easily beating average levels. The viscosity of the oil was high for a 5W/30, reading more in the 10W/30 range. That’s not hurting anything. The oil was in good shape physically, containing no moisture, fuel, or coolant. The air and oil filters are working well too. We think your Trailblazer was doing well as of 9/16/07, the sample date. The TBN was 5.9, showing plenty of active additive left in the oil.

Our evaluation of the used oil analysis report:

- As evidenced by the TBN of 5.9, the oil had life remaining and this sample could easily have been taken down to 0% remaining on the GM Oil Life Monitor.

- As evidenced by the ppm values for the wear metals, primarily aluminum, iron, copper and lead, the engine exhibited wear 11-75% below the universal lab averages.  Given that the oil was used longer than the typical 5,500 miles for this universal average for this fleet of engine, we are particularly pleased with these low wear numbers.
